I’m thrilled to announce that I’m one of the designers for the 2020 House Beautiful Whole Home Concept House! When House Beautiful asked me to join, I immediately said yes, because I identify with their mission of creating an environment that elevates your experience through healthy living and functional spaces. I was tasked with designing the library turned tea room, and wanted to give you a little sneak peek into my inspiration for the design. Read on!
About the Home
Nestled in tranquil Franktown, Colorado, with peak-to-peak views of the Rocky Mountains, this year’s concept home celebrates a healthy agrarian lifestyle. Located in the Fox Hill Community, and built by Nicholas Custom Homes, the innovative home sits on acreage with access to sustainable farm lands, including orchards, berry-picking patches, farm fresh eggs, and vineyards. The home’s wellness was pioneered by Jillian Cooke from Wellness Within Your Walls, who specializes in creating healthy environments through clean air and nontoxic sustainable materials.
I’m designing the home’s library, which is a hidden gem tucked away in a quiet corner of the house. When creating the footprint, I first wanted the room to serve as a safe haven, which so many of us have yearned for in the difficulties of 2020. I also wanted it serve multiple functions, doubling as an office and tea room, where one can take meetings, entertain friends, and cozy up to read a good book. The palette was inspired by my love of colors found in nature. There are vibrant lacquered ruby red walls, softened by materials like grasscloth wall coverings, linen, rattan, wood furnishings, and an antique oushak rug. I’m also bringing a little southern hospitality to Colorado by incorporating a tea setup, with beautiful serving pieces on display that represent my love and appreciation for the past, where slower days and an open door policy were the norm.
The most incredible partners and craftsmen have helped bring this space to life and I am eternally grateful!
