There’s oodles of research proving the aesthetics of our work spaces affect productivity and our attitudes toward our jobs. And considering we generally spend more waking hours at work than we do at home, it’s only natural to want our office environments to be the best they can be. For many, strategizing to create an inspiring work space probably means employing a few tips to stay healthy while on the job, but since we’re in the business of creating beautiful interiors, here are a few tips for nurturing a team and visitor-friendly work space!
First Impressions Are Everything
Welcoming people into your office is much like welcoming them into your home, and first impressions have a lasting impact. Whether it be a new client joining us for a much-anticipated design presentation or our friendly UPS delivery person dropping off samples from our favorite vendors, the front room of our office serves as the welcoming committee to all that enter, as well as our team’s primary meeting place. If your office is large enough to accommodate a waiting area, there are a few things you can incorporate to create a more inviting vibe.
It’s important to consider color palette when creating your office space. A soothing palette including cream, blush, and tan inspires mental clarity and focus, which are both essential for a successful workplace. You don’t want your decor to create a distraction. Consider layering in items that promote comfort, like soft seating and a plush rug. Having fresh flowers and greenery on hand adds an extra layer of ambiance.
Refreshments at the Ready
Have you ever attended a long meeting and been so thirsty or hungry you can’t wait for it to be over? Us, too. Don’t leave your guests parched! As soon as your office visitors arrive, offer them refreshment, just like you would at home. Fresh-squeezed juices and mineral water are two of our personal favorites. For an added dose of flair, arrange drinks, snacks, and serveware on a sleek bar cart prior to the meeting.
It’s been said, “Take care of your employees and they’ll take care of your business.” This is a sentiment we actively apply to our office environment at MFI and we think you should, too. Business can move fast and having yummy snacks, filtered water, and coffee on hand for your staff to grab at a moment’s notice will only add to their overall happiness at work and, hopefully, their productivity.
