It’s been nearly two years since Hurricane Harvey devastated thousands of homes throughout the Houston area, and we were heartbroken to learn that many families still haven’t made the journey back home. The damage forced many to relocate, some to FEMA-funded housing, as they struggled to find a permanent place to live. The Williams family is one of those families. Debra Williams and her two children have spent the last year and a half bouncing from place to place since their home of 20 years was irreparably damaged during the storm.
Thankfully, SBP stepped in to fund and orchestrate the repair of the Williams family home. As SBP began making structural repairs, Houston Rockets First Lady, Laurel D’Antoni, turned her attention to the elements within. For the second year in a row, Laurel called on our team to design the interior spaces of the home using furniture and decor generously provided by Rooms To Go.
After months of preparation, the big reveal took place this week, and happy tears were shed as Debra and her children walked in to their fully renovated home for the very first time.
Media outlets from all over the city showed up to capture the big moment, as Laurel and Mike D’Antoni shared details surrounding the ongoing need for post-Harvey recovery efforts.
We are so thankful the Williams family now has a beautiful place to call home, but there are many others throughout Houston who do not! SBP is constantly in need of volunteers, especially during the fall and winter months, so now’s the time. Build hope and happiness with your own two hands. Get involved.
