Extra! Extra! Read all about it! Over the moon to see my garage apartment renovation in the February issue of Better Homes & Gardens. The transformation from barren, unfinished space to bright, tranquil guest retreat was a true labor of love! Most importantly, we can now offer our out-of-town guests a peaceful place to call ‘home’ which brings my family immense joy! I love the way BH&G editor, Mallory Abreu, walks readers through the home, highlighting creative small-space storage solutions throughout. Let’s take a closer look, shall we?
Small Space, Full Functionality
As with any home my team designs, the goal was to create a visually stunning guest suite with ample natural light. But, with only 500 square feet at our disposal, space was at an absolute premium.
The renovated garage needed to be a fully-functioning apartment, with all the comforts of home, including plenty of available storage for guest’s suitcases and personal items. We installed sleek cabinetry along one wall of the bedroom space, complete with a secret coffee bar and washer/dryer. Kitchen appliances, like the mini fridge, were seamlessly integrated to ensure they don’t draw attention away from the soothing pale blue facade.
As quoted by BH&G, “Everything was about maximizing function and adding architectural detailing to help create zones.”
