Preparing for the holidays can feel like a monumental task, but when that prep comes with a more meaningful purpose, magical moments fall right into place. When everyone is running around like mad [or fighting over the latest “It Gift” at Target…], it can make preserving the real “reason for the season” a difficult task. Lucky for us, we joined forces with a client that lives with that reason in her heart all year round!
- It’s going to be decked out in the most festive decor.
- It’s going to honor a powerful cause.
- You’re going to walk away with a joyful heart!
Laurel’s most recent gathering was hosted for the Ladies for Literacy in support of the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation! It was an honor to offer behind-the-scenes support and we’re sharing a few tips worth keeping in mind this holiday season…
Mix Things Up
When it comes to the holidays, we’re big fans of the mix – new and old, silver and gold, fresh and faux! Whether it’s bringing in fresh greenery and floral arrangements to complement your faux tree, layering heirloom accessories into your centerpiece, or mixing metals in your place settings, elevated holiday style is all about the seamless blend.
Call On a Few Experts
Although we adore the charm of a DIY experience, the hustle and bustle of the holiday season doesn’t always allow for that. We suggest creating a list of your event needs and selecting certain tasks that can be easily outsourced to an expert. In the end, having a team install your holiday decor or deliver fresh floral arrangements to your door will save you valuable time that can be spent stress-free with family and friends!
Honor the Reason for the Season
The most memorable gatherings transpire when hearts are ignited by the true reason for the season. And there’s no better way to light that flame than through the act of giving. In lieu of a host/hostess gift, suggest that visiting friends and family bring donations for a book/toy drive or have a table where guests can craft cards for troops overseas. Thinking through ways your celebration can support and uplift others will make everyone’s spirits bright!
Our time at Laurel’s taught us that only 1 book is available for every 300 children in low-income areas throughout Houston, which is a heart-wrenching fact. Luckily, the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation is working to change that number through programs like My Home Library, Connect4Literacy, and the Curiosity Cruiser; programs that we are overjoyed to support. In addition to our Curiosity Cruiser donations, we are thrilled to announce that our team will be spending a morning in December delivering books to classrooms at a local elementary school!
