In 2015, Marie was named a Traditional Home Rising Star of Design, so we had an inkling that the Trad Home team may like what we’re doing here in Houston, but when they invited Marie to serve as lead designer for the kitchen and dining space in their Napa Valley Show House, we knew this love was real!
Marie spent months preparing floor plans and elevations, and then came the purchasing and coordination of furniture and décor; seeing it all come together was a remarkable treat [and also quite a feat seeing as this village of designers and contractors built an entire home in half a year]! Opening celebrations were hosted at the Peju Province Winery on December 2 and 3 and the home officially opened to the public on Sunday, December 4. If you’re in the area, we hope you’ll drop by [click here for tour details and tickets], but if not, here’s a quick visual journey:
In 1982, Tony Peju and his wife Herta purchased 30 acres of land in the Napa Valley with one magical ingredient – location. Looking to the future, they introduced their two daughters, Lisa and Ariana, to the inner workings of the business and both now help manage the winery alongside their parents. The entire Peju family shares a self-proclaimed passion for farming and wine, so we made sure to keep family, food, and wine at the heart of every design selection.
At the start of the process, we were given a blank slate, so we set out to create a family-friendly space that feels bright and airy with an unobstructed view of the surrounding vineyards. We paired bright white shiplap walls with the warmth and texture of natural wood flooring and exposed metal shelving that lends an industrial vibe. A wood beam suspended over the range was crafted by one of our local faves, Doro’s Flooring, and makes a grand statement in this open concept cucina while cookware and serving ware from Williams Sonoma set the perfect stage for wine country entertaining.
Rustic, oversized chandeliers from Circa Lighting anchor the space with a fresh, timeless feel that celebrates an agrarian sense of style.
In Napa, it’s all about food, wine, and good company, which means that a highly functional kitchen is an absolute must. DCS appliances were selected for their premier performance and easy-to-use controls, and polished chrome DXV faucets serve as the jewels within the space, offering up a timeless sense of style.
With a kitchen this light and bright, we had a little fun with the hardware and opted for dark oiled bronze knobs and pulls from Amerock.
A Roman shade in Suzanne Tucker’s St. Tropez fabric adorns the window over the kitchen sink and drapery in the same fabric frames the dining space across the room. The shade, crafted by G&S Custom Draperies in Houston and shipped to Napa, is easy to hang and ushers in a soft natural light while providing the perfect dose of privacy when needed.
Those beautiful countertops may look like marble, but they’re actually a super durable quartz product offered through Dekton; we love beauty that is also durable enough to withstand daily entertaining!
We LOVE that these Wesley Allen counter stools offer a built in foot rest and the finish coordinates perfectly with our metal shelving!
We love how these exposed metal shelves modernize the space while also expertly displaying all of these gorgeous Williams Sonoma goods!
Moving to the dining space, we selected natural wood furnishings that remain true to the home’s agrarian California locale. We found this antique hutch, a farmhouse table, an overdyed rug, and other accessories at a local hot spot, Sonoma Country Antiques. Palecek’s woven dining chairs are rich with texture and lend an appealing twist to the otherwise traditional décor.
Our friends at Peck & Company custom crafted that gorgeous metal drapery rod which stretches from one end of the dining space to the other!
Aren’t those Mary H. Case Classic Humanity Portraits stunning? Be prepared to see them available through One Kings Lane very soon!
Being invited to design this space was such an honor. Everyone knows that the heart of the home is in the kitchen, and we enjoyed bringing that heart to life.
